At Georgia Vision Institute, our highest priority is making sure our patients have healthy eyes and clear vision. We offer a full range of vision correction options, including EVO ICL lens (EVO) for our patients who want to break free from the hassles of glasses and contacts.

What is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL, also called an Implantable Collamer® Lens, is a refractive implant to correct common vision issues like myopia (nearsightedness) with or without astigmatism. Unlike some other vision correction options, the EVO ICL is an additive technology that corrects vision without the removal of any corneal tissue. The EVO ICL is meant to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses and unlike most permanent refractive surgery solutions, EVO ICL is removable by your doctor, for added peace of mind.

EVO ICL Procedure: What to Expect

EVO ICL is made of biocompatible Collamer material that works in harmony with your eye. Your eye doctor will create a small opening in your cornea that will be used to insert and position the EVO ICL in front of the natural lens of your eye. For most patients, the procedure is virtually painless with anesthetic eye drops and it typically takes less than 20 – 30 minutes.

EVO ICL

The EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an implant that corrects vision without removing any corneal tissue.

LASIK

LASIK is a two-step laser vision correction surgery where a flap is made on the surface of the eye called the cornea, and the underlying layers are reshaped with an
excimer laser to correct vision.

PRK

PRK is a laser vision procedure similar to LASIK but no corneal flap is created. The top layer of the cornea called the epithelium is removed, and the underlying tissue is reshaped to correct vision.

Important Safety Information

The EVO Visian ICL lens is intended to correct/reduce nearsightedness between -3.0 D up to -20.0 D and treat astigmatism from 1.0 D to 4.0 D. If you have nearsightedness within these ranges, EVO Visian ICL surgery may improve your distance vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses. Because the EVO Visian ICL corrects for distance vision, it does not eliminate the need for reading glasses, you may require them at some point, even if you have never worn them before. Since implantation of the EVO Visian ICL is a surgical procedure, before considering EVO Visian ICL surgery you should have a complete eye examination and talk with your eye care professional about EVO Visian ICL surgery, especially the potential benefits, risks, and complications. You should discuss the time needed for healing after surgery. Complications, although rare, may include need for additional surgical procedures, inflammation, loss of cells from the back surface of the cornea, increase in eye pressure, and cataracts. You should NOT have EVO Visian ICL surgery if your doctor determines that 1) the shape of your eye is not appropriate, 2) you do not meet the minimum endothelial cell density for your age at the time of implantation, 3) you have moderate to severe glaucoma, 4) your vision is not stable; or 5) if you are pregnant or nursing. EVO ICL Surgery FAQ

What is EVO ICL, and how does it work?

EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer® Lens) is an advanced vision correction procedure designed to treat nearsightedness (myopia) with or without astigmatism. Unlike LASIK or PRK, EVO ICL does not reshape the cornea. Instead, a soft, biocompatible lens is gently implanted inside the eye, working alongside your natural lens to improve vision. This additive approach allows for clear, sharp vision without removing corneal tissue.

Who is a good candidate for EVO ICL in Georgia?

Ideal candidates for EVO ICL surgery are typically between the ages of 21 and 45, have moderate to severe nearsightedness, and have had a stable prescription for at least one year. Patients who are not good candidates for LASIK due to thin corneas often find EVO ICL to be an excellent alternative. A comprehensive eye exam at Georgia Vision Institute will determine if this procedure is right for you.

How is EVO ICL different from LASIK?

The primary difference is that EVO ICL is reversible and does not involve removing corneal tissue. LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea, while EVO ICL adds a lens to enhance vision. Additionally, EVO ICL is often better suited for patients with higher prescriptions or thin corneas and does not typically cause dry eye symptoms associated with LASIK.

What happens during the EVO ICL procedure?

The procedure is quick and minimally invasive, usually taking about 20 to 30 minutes. Your ophthalmologist will use numbing eye drops to ensure comfort, create a small opening in the cornea, and insert the lens into position. Most patients report little to no discomfort during the process.

What is recovery like after EVO ICL surgery?

Recovery is typically fast and smooth. Many patients notice improved vision almost immediately after the procedure and can return to normal activities, including work, within a day or two. Follow-up visits are important to monitor healing and ensure optimal results.

Will I still need glasses or contacts after EVO ICL?

Most patients experience significantly reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses, and many no longer need them for distance vision. However, as you age, you may still require reading glasses due to natural changes in the eye (presbyopia).

Is EVO ICL safe?

EVO ICL has been performed successfully worldwide, with over 2 million lenses implanted. It is made from Collamer, a material designed to be highly compatible with the eye. Like any surgical procedure, there are risks, but complications are rare. Your doctor will review all potential risks and benefits during your consultation.

Can the EVO ICL lens be removed?

Yes, one of the unique advantages of EVO ICL is that it is removable. If needed, your ophthalmologist can remove or replace the lens, providing an added level of flexibility and peace of mind compared to permanent vision correction procedures.

How much does EVO ICL cost in Georgia?

The cost of EVO ICL varies depending on your specific vision needs and treatment plan. While it may seem like a larger upfront investment, many patients find it cost-effective over time compared to the ongoing expense of glasses and contact lenses. Financing options are often available.

How do I get started with EVO ICL at Georgia Vision Institute?

The first step is scheduling a consultation with our experienced eye care team. During your visit, we will perform a detailed eye exam, discuss your vision goals, and determine whether EVO ICL is the best solution for your needs.
